Landau Damping in Inhomogeneous Plasmas

Solutions of the Vlasov equation for a bounded, one‐dimensional, inhomogeneous plasma are presented. The results indicate that the high‐frequency modes of oscillation (Tonks‐Dattner resonances) can exhibit a very large Landau damping even in the long‐wavelength regime.
