Zusammenfassung:This article seeks to analyze the problematic question of the identity of Friar Gil Lobo and Friar Gil de Tavira, confessors of Dom Duarte and Dom Afonso V, respectively, two Franciscan friars who have been studied as if they were the same individual. Once the origin of this problem had been identified, as well as some of its consequences, it was possible to definitively distinguish the identity and history of these two men, thanks to an unpublished document from the Chancery of King Afonso V. Furthermore, from other data that was collected, the foundations have now been laid for further reflections on the role that these two clerics played at the Royal House of Avis.
