Zusammenfassung: | Objective. Identify and relate the presence of bulimic symptoms with the use of coping strategies and socio-demographic variables in women between 10 and 17 years of age. Materials and methods. Correlational design. BITE was applied to measure bulimic symptoms and the ACS to identify coping strategies. Results. We identified that 59% of 278 participants has not altered behaviors about food and 41% have symptoms of bulimia. Correlations were identified between the severity with socioeconomic stratum. We found positive correlations between symptoms of bulimia and self-incrimination and search strategies for spiritual support. We also found positive correlation between gravity and search strategies for spiritual support and physical distraction. Conclusion: The results are consistent with previous studies on the subject since the strategies that relate to the severity of symptoms and Bulimia are avoidant and emotion-focused. Finally, we illustrate the need for more studies comparing clinical and nonclinical samples. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT] |
