Editor's note

The current issue - Vol. 2. No.1, of the Contemporary Journal of African Studies (CJAS), is the third in the series under this title, the successor to the Research Review of the Institute of African Studies. It is essential to recall that responding to suggestions from the research fellowship of the Institute of African Studies for a re-branding of the Research Review, which began publication in the early 1960s soon after the establishment of the Institute, the old title has been replaced with this new title - Contemporary Journal of African Studies.
