Zusammenfassung: | Epidemiological studies have reported that while undergoing intensive training or following long-duration competitive events athletes may have an increased susceptibility to infection. Various studies involving nutritional supplements have been done attempting to reduce either the immunosuppression following prolonged exercise and/or the subsequent risk of developing upper respiratory tract infections. It is the aim of this review to examine the evidence as to whether carbohydrate (CHO) feeding (supplementation or dietary) would provide a means of attenuating some of the immuno-suppression associated with prolonged exercise, and ultimately reduce the risk of upper respiratory tract infection. |
