Zusammenfassung: | The distribution and habitat preference of 12 small mammal species in the reserve are given and discussed in terms of the habitat and the requirements of the species. Species richness, diversity and popUlation densities in the plant communities are discussed. Metal breakback rat-traps proved more efficient than mouse-traps or the live-traps used. Additions to the species list were still found after four seasons of intensive trapping which suggests that a high intensity of trapping is necessary to determine accurately the species diversity of different plant communities. A comparison of different methods of trapping shows that more individuals of common species are caught where traps are moved in the trapping area every 24 h whereas a wider variety of species is caught when traps are left at the original site for five days. |
