Zusammenfassung:We report on a sustainable and straightfoward approach to develop a hydrophobic layer on the surface of wood veneers via the Michael addition click reaction of alkanethiols. After treatment, the naturally hygroscopic wood scaffold shows superhydrophobic properties with contact angles above 150°. A cost-effective approach to functionalize lignocellulosic material is presented: cyclodextrin catalyzed thiol-ene click reaction in water.
