Alan Richard Powell, 6 March 1894 - 11 October 1975

Alan Richard Powell, the son of Alfred and Ellen Powell, was born on 6 March 1894 and died on 11 October 1975. In his span of 81 years he saw great changes in science, and in the scale of the application of science to industry. He himself was primarily an experimentalist, equally at home with a few milligrams of a metal as with tons of its ore. This was fortunate for Johnson, Matthey and Co., Ltd, with whom he was Research Manager for 36 years.
