Zusammenfassung: | DeSilva et al discuss role of evidence scans in the review of DRIs. The DRIs are a set of reference values used to plan and assess nutrient intakes of the apparently healthy populations of the US and Canada. DRI values, established for different age and sex groups, are based on various health outcomes that include nutrient adequacy, chronic disease, and toxicity. The DRIs serve as the scientific basis for federal food and nutrition programs, policies, and regulations, including food fortification, nutrition labeling, dietary guidelines, and standards for military feeding. The first DRI reports, which included 29 vitamins and minerals, macronutrients, energy, and fiber, were published between 1997 and 2005 by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM). |
