Zusammenfassung:Technological advancements in the capabilities of modern smartphones offer tremendous potential to generate big data from small devices that could influence oncologists’ decision-making. Here we describe the value of patient-generated health data (PGHD) that can be captured using mobile devices. We comment on the current use of smartphones in oncology clinical research and describe how smartphones will bring big data into the oncology clinic by enabling continuous patient monitoring, information sharing, and personalized clinical decision making in cancer care. Lastly, we describe practical considerations about how we can access and store PGHD in the future, describing how to harness the clinical value of PGHD and comment on the emerging applications for digital biomarkers captured by smartphones.
