Zusammenfassung:Posterolateral thoracotomy is the most frequently used operation in thoracic surgery, and may initiate an inflammatory process. We aimed to evaluate inflammatory response of the body to posterolateral thoracotomy. This study was conducted between January 2013 and June 2014. Blood samples were drawn from 36 patients who underwent posterolateral thoracotomy preoperatively, and on postoperative days one, three and seven The levels of PTX-3, CRP and WBC in the serums of the patients were identified. All the results were recorded and analyzed. PTX-3 levels were found statistically significantly higher in patients with lung cancer and/or aged above 65 years. There were significant differences in WBC and CRP levels between preoperative levels and on those on postoperative days one, three and seven but not for PTX-3. The area under the curve(AUC) levels in the receiver operating characteristics(ROC) analysis, which was performed to estimate the strength of PTX-3 in the differentiation of malignant and benign patients was found statistically significant(p
