Morphine responsiveness to thermal pain stimuli is aging-associated and mediated by dopamine D1 and D3 receptor interactions

Highlights • Pain withdrawal reflexes are age-dependent and dopamine D3 receptor-mediated. • Block of dopamine D1 receptor in young D3KO animals mimics aged wild-type controls. • In old animals, dopamine D1 receptor block can mimic analgesic effects of morphine.
