Screening for abdominal aortic aneurysms in men

Death rates from ruptured aortic aneurysm are around 50%. Aortic aneurysms can be detected with a simple ultrasound examination, and medical screening has been shown to reduce deaths by 42%. A population screening program in the UK could save several thousand lives at a reasonable cost.
