Nucleotide sequence of bacteriophage T4 gene 31 region

Bacteriophage T4 capsid assembly gene 31 encoding a 111 amino acid residue peptide of Mr = 12.1 kDa. pI = 5.9 has been cloned, sequenced, and overexpressed previously. Here, the complete nucleotide sequence of the 1910-bp EcoRI-PstI fragment containing gene 31 upstream from the Br1II site is presented. The sequenced region revealed four complete open reading frames, ORF 31.2, ORF 31.1, ORF 31.-1, and ORF 31.-2, representing small and genetically unidentified genes, which encode basic polypeptides with predicted molecular masses of 9.4, 11.5, 9.3, and 8.2 kDa and isoelectric point of 10.9, 10.0, 9.3 and 12.0, respectively.
