At Sam Barthe High School as an honor student, he excelled in both baseball and football, and at Tulane University he became an outstanding football player. [...]he exhibited himself as a true athlete with scholarly performance. [...]he directed his efforts toward improving the techniques of heart transplantation. Cliff was a fertile author, contributing to multiple medical journals and textbooks and serving on the editorial board of the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
