Zusammenfassung:Five cases of suspected listerial infection are presented; four were proved to be genuine. Problems arose in the microscopy of smears of cerebrospinal fluid; the organism was not detected in one case, and in two other cases it was described as another type of bacterium. Difficulties in identifying the organism culturally are also discussed.
