Practical Knowledge Based Medical Systems Hepatologist's Assistant

We demonstrate a knowledge based system that allows people exposed to Hepatitis A or B to be efficiently evaluated. Our primary design goal was to provide COST EFFECTIVE QUALITY CARE. Our system: (1) enables nurses to be better assistants to physicians by guiding them in gathering a complete patient history; and (2) relieves physicians of clerical duties by providing the physician with reports so that the patient can be evaluated quickly. A physician with the patient reviews the reports and modifies them if needed. The reports include: Chart History and Treatment Plan Sheet, Patient's Information Sheet, Physician's Information Sheet, and Consent Forms. Our system enables nurses to use more of their knowledge while decreasing the physician time needed to provide and document patient care.
