Zusammenfassung:The Ionic Centrifuge is briefly described. The discharge in this device violates the usual miles of magnetohydrodynamics because of the high electric field parallel to the magnetic field in the space charge affected boundaries./sup 6,8/ The kinetic energy of random motion of the particles is proportional to the voltage which the main discharge holds at each point. By causing this voltage to rise to a high positive value and then drop to zero at the cylinder, the ions are not collected when their kinetic energy is high, but only at the cylinder where this kinetic energy is low again. The suitability of this arrangement for nuclear power converters is pointed out.
