Norwalk virus: a major cause of epidemic gastroenteritis

The authors review current knowledge concerning Norwalk virus, which has been identified as a common cause of outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis. The need for further studies, so that effective measures can be taken to control such outbreaks, is indicated.
