Zusammenfassung:	Responds to Campos-Outcalt et al's paper, 'Motor-vehicle crash fatalities among American Indians and non-Indians in Arizona, 1979 through 1988', (1998;88:820 and 1999;89:785). Suggests that the criteria used for matching death certificate data to Fatal Accident Reporting system (FARS) data is unsatisfactory. Aside from preventive efforts focusing on alcohol consumption, many motor vehicle crash fatalities could be prevented by vehicle and road modifications alone. Campos-Outcalt replies.
