Averil Mansfield is Vice-President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is the immediate Past President of the Section of Surgery of The Royal Society of Medicine. She is a Vascular Surgeon and the Professor of Surgery at Imperial College School of Medicine at St Mary's Hospital, London. She has been President of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain & Ireland, The Vascular Surgical Society of Great Britain & Ireland and was founding Chairman of ‘Women in Surgical Training’ of the Royal College of Surgeons. She has chaired the Intercollegiate Board in General Surgery, The Federation of Surgical Specialty Associations and the Intercollegiate Committee of Continuing Medical Education for the Senate of Surgeons. Her medical training and initial consultant appointments were in Liverpool.
