Zusammenfassung:Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is characterized by the insidious onset of pain and progressive loss of global active and passive mobility of the glenohumeral joint, which can be treated by non-surgical or surgical methods. This study was done to evaluate the functional outcome of intra-articular (I/A) steroid injection and manipulation of the shoulder joint manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) in frozen shoulder. A cross-sectional study was done in a tertiary care hospital in Pokhara, Nepal. A total of 35 patients over 40 years were included in the study. All the patients underwent I/A steroid injection and MUA. The functional outcome was evaluated using a Constant-Murley shoulder score (CSS) and a visual analogue scale (VAS) scoring system. The mean age was 53.46±7.524 years. Twenty-two were female, while 13 were male. Twelve patients were associated with diabetes. Minor complications were noted in 15 patients (14 with transient pain and one with facial flushing). At 12 weeks, the mean VAS score was 2.16±1.33 cm, and the mean CSS score was 82.66±7.008. At 24 weeks, the mean VAS was 1.534±1.195 cm, and the mean CSS score was 85.77±6.998. This study shows that patients with frozen shoulder treated with I/A steroid injection and MUA give excellent functional outcomes in most patients.
