Zusammenfassung:	This article summarizes the work of 20 years of research on chromogranin A of bovine chromaffin cells and those of other species. Recent data showing that chromogranin A is not restricted to chromaffin cells but is also present in numerous endocrine and neuroendocrine cells will be analysed and discussed. Finally, the value of chromogranin A to pathology in the diagnosis of certain types of neuroendocrine tumours will be mentioned. (DBO)
