E-Cigarettes as a Smoking Cessation Aid - Toward Common Ground and a Rational Approach

Hopkinson talks about the use of e-cigarettes in smoking cessation. Provision of nicotine e-cigarettes in a therapeutic context should increase confidence of smokers in using them, encourage proper use, and divert smokers away from unregulated or illicit products. Moreover, the combination with counseling will increase the effectiveness of quit attempts. Lang et al have set out some objections to this approach, on the basis of concerns around safety, effectiveness, and unintended consequences.
