Allergic contact dermatitis due to Cidex: Report of a case

The rising incidence of gram-negative infections after oral surgery procedures and the increasing incidence of viral hepatitis demand that the most effective measures be taken in the dental office to prevent cross contamination. Among the agents used for disinfection, two are presently recognized as being true chemical cold sterilizing solutions. Cidex, one such agent widely used in hospitals for a number of years, has recently begun to be used in dental offices. Instructions concerning use of this agent specifically warn against the danger of sensitization. The present article presents a case in which allergic contact dermatitis resulted from failure to observe the recommended precautions.
