Zusammenfassung: | A 29-year-old patient developed severe Cushingʼs syndrome shortly after becoming pregnant. The syndrome was characterized by hypokalemia and a marked rise in urinary 17-hydroxycorticosteroids, which could not be suppressed with dexamethasone, 8 mg daily. Clinical and biochemical abnormalities disappeared rapidly after an abortion. Efforts to reproduce the abnormalities afterward with human chorionic gonadotropin and a synthetic estrogen were unsuccessful. This represents the only reported example in which a therapeutic abortion resulted in the remission of Cushingʼs syndrome. |
