A RARE CASE OF GIANT INTRAPERITONEAL LIPOMA IN PATIENT WITH NODULAR FASCIITIS: IMAGE 18 F-FDG PET / CT

Nodular fasciitis is a benign reactive proliferation of myofibroblasts but sometimes misdiagnosed as sarcoma based on cellularity, mitotic figures and rapid growth. On the other hand, giant intraperitoneal lipomas are very rare cases and most of them are reported as liposarcoma because their large size; although liposarcoma is only 0.1% of all human neoplasms, is the most common histology subtype of retroperitoneal soft tissue sarcomas. This paper report on a case in whom these tumors concur, who underwent whole body F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET / CT, which discriminated the benign nature of both lesions. F-FDG PET / CT plays a fundamental role in the differentiation of benign and malignant lesions, as well as in the detection of unsuspected lesions.
