Zusammenfassung:CD44 is an adhesion molecule, member of the transmembrane glucoprotein family, with large number of isoforms identified in many human tissues, with particularly high expression in proliferating cells and squamous cell epithelium. This review is focused on the role of CD44 in the carcinogenesis of the oral cavity with special emphasis on its potential use for diagnosis and prognosis of cancer of oral cavity.
