Zusammenfassung: | Acquired systemic amyloidosis may develop during the course of a number of chronic inflammatory diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease. Amyloidosis, although rare, is life-threatening, especially when it involves the kidneys. It is important to recognize this complication, especially since colchicine has been proposed as a possible treatment. We present a 25-year-old female diagnosed at the age of 13 years with Crohn's disease with involvement of the terminal ileum and right colon. Surgery was performed because of inflammatory activity unresponsive to corticosteroid and immunosuppressive drugs. She subsequently presented nephrotic syndrome due to secondary amyloidosis, which responded well to colchicine treatment. |
