Healthcare fraud enforcement after healthcare reform

According to the government, SJMC paid kickbacks to MidAtlantic Cardiovascular Associates ("MACA") in exchange for the referral of "lucrative cardiac procedures, including cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology procedures..." [...] as part of the settlement, SJMC was required to enter into a Corporate Integrity Agreement (CIA) that included appointment of at least one but no more than three Physician Executives whose responsibilities will include oversight of medical staff quality of care matters at SJMC, including but not limited to performance improvement, quality assessment, patient safety, utilization review, medical staff peer review, medical staff credentialing and privileging, and medical staff training and discipline.\n This position differs from several other circuits.
