Coping with baby boomers, and staggering statistics

Dee discusses the government's preparation for the coming of aging boomers and the future of elder care. For instance, this year's health system reform law--the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act--provides 100% Medicare coverage for annual preventive sessions for seniors. This will be a great benefit to practitioners with geriatric patients. It allows us time not only to conduct functional assessments but also actually to discuss a variety of important subjects with our older patients. The law is broad enough that all will be able to tailor these sessions to the patients, and it should make a tremendous difference.
