Doctoral Diversity in the Humanities Won't Be Achieved by Chance

Consideration of access and diversity should become second nature to department chairs and directors of graduate education. When they look around at their events, they should mentally check to be sure the English majors, for instance, aren't all white, just as it's become reflex to be sure that the courses we offer aren't all white. Search-committee members should be embarrassed, and wonder what they did wrong, if they haven't managed to draw a diverse pool of applicants.
