Zusammenfassung:In this study, I attempted to conduct an empirical analysis of the relationship between the utilization of patents registered in the Licensable Patent Information Database and the innovativeness and importance of the patents. Overall, the results suggest that high importance of patents has a statistically significant positive effect on the utilization of patents, while the high innovativeness of patents may not lead to successful utilization of patents although it does not have a statistically significant negative effect. This result suggests a situation in which highly innovative patents are buried, which is consistent with the current situation in which there are few university-originated start-up companies. Therefore, it is important to develop a mechanism and incentive system to utilize highly innovative patents of universities and related organizations.
