Zusammenfassung:In my 33 years in the education field and now as department chair and associate professor at Howard University, I have observed a critical need for educators of all ages to engage in diversity and equity training. The following are some questions a teacher can start with as they review their setting: * Are there multiple spaces for seating and working? * Does the environment consider the diverse body shapes and abilities children inhabit; for instance, does it accommodate a child who is left-handed or one who is taller than their peers? * How much of the day is spent with children at tables working quietly? * Are there opportunities for children to move around and use all of their senses? * Is there a quiet and relaxing space for the child who becomes overstimulated, and are there opportunities to talk, sing, and laugh for the child who needs that outlet?
