About a year later, he got the chance to work maintenance in the plant itself, helping to produce caustic soda beads. After two years in Thailand, McGarry returned to Pittsburgh to be a business manager for PPG's TESLIN sheet (a synthetic paper used for tags, labels, etc.), then a product manager in the derivatives, chlorine, liquid and dry caustic soda businesses.
