According to AMN, the BLS Job Openings and Turnover Survey (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, n.d.) states the number of job openings in the healthcare industry continues to grow every month while the number of job hires has remained fairly static. According to a 2017 AMN survey of registered nurses (2017), the wave of baby boomer nurses retiring has already started. Both the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2020) and the AMN newsletter (2018), a leading healthcare staffing company support Etzioni's view that many workers replaced by automation could find a large number of available positions open to them if they choose to transfer into medical or healthcare professions. |
