Zusammenfassung: | We report a new fossil mysticete specimen from the Middle Miocene Omori Formation, Shimane, Japan. The material consists of the posterior part of a left mandible. Because of its incompleteness, the specimen cannot be assigned to a specific taxon. Nevertheless, it likely represents a ‘cetothere’ senu lato, based on its large, posterolaterally projected coronoid process, large mandibular foramen, and its ventrally (but not posteriorly) projected angular process. |
