Zusammenfassung:[...]many fast-growing employment sectors involve water - for example, 85% of 2016 graduates from San Diego/Imperial County community colleges' Water and Wastewater Technology and Environmental Technology programs attained living wages. Examples of CTE topics related to clean water and sanitation include: * understanding advances in drip irrigation developed in Israel and potential applications to drought-prone areas in the United States in an AFNR course * troubleshooting aging water infrastructure, bridges and dams in engineering coursework and comparing solutions to those used in Europe or to the Trans Africa Pipeline Project * understanding the evolution and enforcement of water compacts between states, such as Florida and Georgia, and/or the West Coast, and comparing them to similar international compacts in law and public-security courses * understanding the interplay between mining/fertilizer run-off and stream and lake health in environmental science and related courses * researching and comparing drinking water quality between your community and another outside of the U.S. and exploring impacts of unsafe drinking water over time in health- and human-services courses * understanding how tourism is impacted by water quality, including international tourism - almost 80 million international visitors traveled to the U.S. in 2018 (Mzezewa, 2019) * looking at the NAE Grand Challenges in Engineering for inspiration: "Provide Access to Clean Water" is one of their challenges Each SDG has sub-goals that are more explicit and finite and can provide inspiration for shorter lesson plans. By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally * SDG #6.1: Using a Hall effect sensor, the students were able to calculate the revolutions per minute of that hydropower wheel during normal rain and flood conditions, and used LabVIEW to program an alarm to sound when the wheel indicated dangerous levels of water flow.
