Zusammenfassung: | In the development of abnormal glucose tolerance, postprandial (after meals) glucose levels increase, but insulin has insufficient capacity to promote cellular absorption of glucose. The pancreas, sensing a high level of glucose in the bloodstream, may continue to excrete insulin, but adipose (fatty) tissue prevents efficient uptake of glucose into cells. So, the body cannot use this insulin effectively. Insulin builds up in the bloodstream, resulting in high levels of insulin and glucose. |
