Infant mortality among American Indian and Alaska Native populations: successes and challenges

Over the past two decades, effective medical care techniques in Alaska have produced a decline in infant mortality rates and fewer low birth weight babies among Indian and Native populations. But the Indian Health Service seeks meaningful community involvement and cooperative efforts with other federal and state agencies to reduce infant mortality among this population to national levels by the year 2000
