Zusammenfassung: | A much-discussed topic in industrial automation is the move to open digital networks. This move marks a significant change in the architecture of process-control and manufacturing systems. As with any major technological change, much contention surrounds the choice of technologies, methods, and architectures. Industrial-automation systems address such varied requirements that no one network can conceivably suit all of them. Three digital networks that target industrial-automation applications - DeviceNet, Profibus-DP, and Foundation Fieldbus - illustrate how different target applications result in different network architectures. They represent contrasting technologies and are arguably the subject of the most intense current discussions. |
