Thirty-four states, particularly North Dakota, South Dakota, Idaho, Kansas and Montana, experienced increases in the growth of personal income. Personal income growth in 1991 was only 3.2%, compared to 6.5% in 1990. The growth in per capita personal income decreased each year between 1988 and 1991. The increase in per capita personal income in 1991 was 2.1%, compared to 7.1% in 1988. The state with the highest per capita personal income in 1991 was Connecticut, with per capita income at $14,411.
