Zusammenfassung:Personal income growth in the nation picked up in the second quarter of 1991 after slowing in the 4 preceding quarters. The pickup in personal income growth was widespread by region and by industry. Pickups were largest in the Rocky Mountain, Mideast, and Great Lakes regions. In the Rocky Mountain region, personal income increased 1.6%. It was accounted for by a sharp increase in farm income because of Federal subsidy payments to wheat farmers. In the Mideast region, personal income increased 1.0%; all industries except farming contributed to the upswing. In the Great Lakes region, personal income increased 1.2%; the upswing in manufacturing payrolls was due, in part, to an increase in motor vehicle production. Personal income increased in the Plains by 1.3%, in the Far West by 1.2%, in the Southwest by 1.4%, and in New England by 0.2%. In the Southeast, personal income growth slowed down in the second quarter and only increased 0.9% after a 1.2% increase in the first quarter.
