One driver did surprise the author: intellectual property and intellectual property reform. This has opened up all sorts of new lines of thinking: consumer electronics manufacturers as potential brothers-in-arms in the patent reform and anti-DRM movements. Perhaps it's time that CE manufacturers start thinking about what sort of products the digital youth want. Apple may have locked up the iPod, but it strikes the author that other components of people's digital lives are still up for grabs. |
