PERTTI KEKARAINEN: THE SENSATION OF SEEING

Rexer describes Pertti Kekarainen's TILA series. In TILA series, there are moments of pure terror, when vision loses its certainty. Kekarainen's photographs focus on architectural configurations--rooms, doorways, windows--often in partial soft focus, circles of color, or sometimes larger rectangular zones that nearly obscure the original image. In some cases, Kekarainen plays visually straight with space, simply photographing complicated arrangements of doors or windows. In others, he emphasizes a geometry of shadows. Kekarainen is more interested in the phenomenology of seeing and the role of the camera in visual interpretation.
