Zusammenfassung: | Presents a series of eight photographs of children by the German artist Loretta Lux. Citing Lux, whose influences include the Old Masters Bronzino, Pinturicchio, and Velázquez, the author describes how she carefully composes her portraits using techniques she learnt as a painter, and considers the stark image of childhood they convey, suggesting that they not only perpetuate a tradition established by the German photographers Bernd and Hilla Becher, but also extend concerns found throughout German children's literature. The photographs are: Isabella (2001; col. illus.), Girl with Crossed Arms (2001; col. illus.), Three Wishes (2001; col. illus.), Paulin (2002; col. illus.), Hidden Rooms 1 (2001; col. illus.), Study of a Boy 2 (2002; col. illus.), Spring (2001; col. illus.), and The Rose Garden (2001; col. illus.). |
