Managing IP analyses 2018 data pulled from Docket Navigator to reveal the trends in overall US patent case filing in district courts, and the top plaintiffs, defendants, law firms and attorneys Source: Docket Navigator Patent case filing in US district courts slumped in 2018. According to data pulled by Managing IP from the Docket Navigator database on January 14, some 3,600 cases were filed in 2018 – down 11.5% on 2017’s 4,070 cases. Again, it should be noted that these figures were pulled from the Docket Navigator database on January 14. Because of the lag in some data being released, it may not include all cases filed near the end of the year, and subsequently all plaintiffs, defendants, law firms and attorneys.
