Zusammenfassung:Upon initiating market or business development research, many companies confront the choice between conducting research in-house or contracting with an outside research firm. Several factors need to be considered before an objective choice can be made. The first key factor to be examined is the timing of the market research in relation to the company's internal decision cycle. Objectivity also must considered. Financing is usually a pivotal factor in deciding to have market research done in-house. However, when the costs of disrupting activities to do the work in-house or having research done poorly are high, contracting out may be the better option. The factor of human resources is equally critical. Consideration should be given to whether the staff available to do the work in-house has the requisite skills and expertise to conduct reliable research. The risk involved in doing research in-house also needs to be compared with contracting with an outside firm.
