Zusammenfassung:A 1998 study of 10,000 associates by the National Association for Law Placement reports high levels of law firm turnover: about 9% in the first year after law school. Turnover approaches 50% by the end of 3 years - just when associates are becoming profitable. The rates are even higher among women and minorities. The high rate of turnover is due to the fact that most firms fail to invest in ongoing development programs that help associates manage their careers. Proactive steps that law firms can take to reduce turnover are discussed.
