Zusammenfassung: | The truth is that there is no bandwidth over-abundance. Indeed, there is bandwidth scarcity - especially within the metro environment. What critics have mistakenly publicized are the myths around where the bandwidth abundance has occurred rather than understanding where the bandwidth will really be needed. Furthermore, there needs to be a distinction between usable (lit) and dormant (unlit) bandwidth infrastructure; according to a Merril Lynch report, there is currently about 39 million miles of fiber in US and only 10% is in use. Bandwidth abundance in the metro area is a misnomer and an oxymoron. In the midst of enterprise-bound technology proliferation and a presumed overbuild of infrastructure, 80% of US-based enterprises have bandwidth less than that of a T1 line. |
